Where are the VIN #s located on a 1927 Model T? On the engine, frame, transmission????

No VIN, that didn't come along until the 1960'.

The engine number is the 'serial' number on a T, and that is the registration # to use.

That number is stamped in the engine block on the left side above the water inlet port, if there is an aftermarket water pump or horn, the number may be blocked from view.

Beginning in the 1926 model year, the Improved Fords that were introduced in Aug 1925, began to get on Dec 12, 1925 a number that matched the engine number, stamped on the frame rail upper, located by the running board brace. lift the floor boards to see it...sometimes ti was stamped on the left rail, most times on the right rail.

My 26 T coupe has the engine number also stamped on the top of the frame, right side around the door opening. There was also an aluminum tag riveted to the inside firewall centered at the very bottom where the floorboard meets the firewall. It was to corroded to tell what it was, suspect it may have also carried that number.

That other aluminum plate was a patent tag. ws

Can I see the number on the frame easily? Is the wooden floorboard easy to remove? Does the transmission also have the same #?

Thank you all for your replies. I'm trying to learn as much as possible before I buy one.

How easily you can see the frame number depends on the lighting and how dirty the frame is. Sometimes it takes a bit of steel wool to uncover the number.

The floor boards just lift out.

The transmission is unnumbered.

Right side rail, directly between front and rear running board hangers. Toward the outside edge, above the radius.
Eight characters, all numerals, no letters. Not going to tell you what mine are...

Just as a bit of extra info, Canadian T's in 26 and 27 were stamped on the passenger side top of the rail and started with a 6 for 26 and a 7 for 27. Not sure of the other years as I am mostly familiar with these 2 years. A lot of Canadian Robertson square head (look like a torx, but square) screws were used for garnishes and interior trim. US models used slot type screws.
