Default front drums

Are the suppliers all getting their front wheel drums and hubs from the same supplier?or is there a difference in quality?

Hi X,

If you look up under "Search" and call Mr. Mel Gross, in my humble opinion, you will be consulting with one of the most well experienced professionals who handles both new and used Model A hubs and drums every day.

Then if you let us know what he advises, you will share an expert professional opinion with all members of this Forum.

One question posted, like yours, can always be one of the key factors to help keeping everyone informed of our forever changing Model A parts and suppliers.

There are two makers of the cast drums that I know of.
As far as quality, I haven't seen any comparison tests made on them.

Aloha,
I just replaced my steel drums with cast iron drums. I used Mel Gross (Randy)
services, and I can say enough good things about them. While there drums are made in china, they insists on their drums to be done with their specifications.
I send my hubs and brake shoes from Hawaii and a week later I got my new hubs and drums turned to balance, and all my shoes (cleaned) with brand new bonded lining. The cost of the drums were $30 cheaper (per drum) from any other vendor.
I understand that Mel and Randy are in the brake business and their work is impeccable and would highly recommend their services.

Just to add a bit about Randy's drums, they are a work of art and not like any other cast drum I have ever used in my 65+ years of working on vehicles. They are machined to perfection, you would be well advised to send him your hubs and let him send you back the fitted drums and shoes, at a price very competitive with other vendors. When you get quality at a great price, that is a win.

My set of Mel's cast iron drums look so terrific I left them on the bench to admire. I wipe them off and show them to friends, hate to put them on and get them scratched up by shoes. LOL
