Can any flathead experts tell me what type of flathead engine this is and what it might have came out of?The markings on the oil pan and the water pump case have me confused?I was thinking about purchasing for a spare to rebuilt for my 1952 F-1.I was told it is a truck engine??? Thanks

The water pumps look like Mercury '49-'51. It looks like there is a little green paint on the lower front of the head, so Mercury is my guess. The oil pan doesn't look like it is from a car, though.

Yep; Merc pumps with the spacers. Maybe a 4" crank Merc?? Does it turn?? Newc

Yes,it is suppose to be free!If it is mercury,wouldn't the heads be marked mercury?I have never seen an oil pan like that either?

The later car oilpans has thoose reinforcements...started maybe -51...
Has the later car narrow belt pulleys.
Long breather tube and manifolds look like truck.
Maybe a car/merc engine that has been used in a truck ??
Using fords heads give you higher compression.
And intake was usually swapped to make aircleaner/carb fit.

BITSA engine. Bits of this and bits of that. All I can say is that it in the 8BA family. The blocks are all pretty much the same. The center sump is Ford car from 1949 through 53 with variations. 8RT truck manifold with long fill tube. The coolant pumps like those were only used on Mercury cars from 1950 thru 51 if they are marked 0CM. The 49 Merc had a different mount set up but the pumps looked similar. They would be marked 8CM for a 49. The fan is Ford style.

I wouldn't count on it having a Merc crank. It will have to be opened up to find that stuff out and whether it has the early valves or the later rotator valves.

That is not a 49 Merc front pulley . Could be later maybe.

Owner states now that the heads are marked 8BA on the heads and has a stroke of 3.75 so being a Mercury engine is out!

Yep! I just picked up a good 49-53 block yesterday - had been tanked, magged and the valve work started (then they sold the machine shop). Was happy to get it for $375.

Hoping to pickup two more 49-53 blocks . . . have some 'projects' to get done!
