Default Great experience with Schwalm's!

I am so pleased with my engine and transmission rebuild from Schwalm's. My engine was picked up by a shipper on September 9. It took two days to get there and I just received my rebuilt engine with new Babbitt and transmission on October 25th.
Talk about turn around, 32 business days!

Here is everything I had done:
  • Rebuild Model A Long Block (1931)
  • New 5.5:1 Cylinder Head
  • Balance Engine Components - Crank, Rods, Pistons
  • Counterbalanced Crankshaft
  • Performance Intake Valves
  • Type 1 Lightened Flywheel/V8 Pressure Plate
  • New Clutch Disc
  • New Camshaft
  • Install Cam Bearings
  • Machine for Oversize Tappets
  • Resurface Manifold Side of Block
  • Water Pump
  • Transmission Gear Box Rebuild
  • Shifter Tower
  • Bell Housing/Peddles
  • Seal Shifter Shafts
  • Bell Housing Bolts
  • Helicoils in 5 head studs

They kept me up-to-date through emails and phone calls. Excellent service.
I am beyond excited to try starting her up later this week once I get it installed.

EDIT: Added to original post to make it easier to find:
I was able to get everything put back together after work last night. Here is the video of the first start!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EpN3lda_L8&t=1s

Nice. The engine in my 190A was done at Schwalm's and it is performing very well.

That's great to hear. Their reputation was one of the main reasons I choose them.

Looks real nice!

Painted in Model A Ford engine green I trust?

Just hard to tell from the pic, seems to maybe look a little darker in the photo to me.

thanks,

Yes sir, the correct green for most of the engine. Pan, throttle linkage, and oil tube are black.

Just out of curiosity how much did you pay for all of that?

Short answer, the prices are on their website listed in my original post.
Long answer, I saved for an entire year. But this should last me well into my 60-70's. I am 38 now

I installed an engine (short block) and V8 flywheel/clutch rebuilt by Schwalm’s in March. The engine runs beautifully and I would use them again !

That is a wise move, spend your money up-front for quality and forget it!

And again, thanks for posting your positive review. It is refreshing to hear something good and not somebody bitching because of this or that, and often times only hearing part of that story to boot!

Not sure what you mean. I pulled the engine from my car, built a crate, sent the engine to Schwalm's rebuilt it, and sent it back to my in the same crate. There is no need to restamp the serial number.

There is if you want it to match the title like mine. My original went for a Sears core charge 50 years ago,Not one of Henry'
s better ideas especially with an engine trade in plan.

Nothing is ever easier at the DMV in Ohio at least my local one. I had enough trouble registering this car a year ago not because of the serial number but the previous title. The man who owned my '31 roadster for over 50 years was also a use car salesman in Toledo Ohio and the title of all his collector cars were under his dealership or car lot name.So DMV tells me that previous title /car lot was no longer a registered dealer.DUH says I the guy would be over a 100 years old,the son I bought it from was 80.So they tell me I have to take it to court and pluck down 400 dollars to get the court thing going. Finally the more knowledgeable DMV person tells us the title was old enough to be grandfathered in before the requirement under car lot transfers. I would not want to question the serial number even further. I once had a 1939 Ford convertible and the previous title showed it as a Tudor,I asked for the gal to type mine in as a convertible coupe and she stopped dead in her tracks and asked me if I was trying to get her to creat an illegal title and should she get a legal person to question me.So title remained Tudor as will my title with Model A engine that is not a '31 but a '29 or '30.

Nice to see a young fella so enthusiastic about his A. Engine sounds great as all Schwalms engines do.
