Get the flywheel and pressure plate and clutch disc balanced as a unit.

Shattering clutch ? I'm thinking you're talking about a chatter/shake.

That is usually caused by improper bell housing alignment and pressure plate finger adjustment. It could also be caused by a warped flywheel.

There is no way to balance the clutch disc as part of the rotating assembly since it ends up in a different spot every time you use it.

In addition to other thoughts, could be grease or oil on the clutch disc.

That was my problem. Rode the clutch as I drove it for a little while and it cleared itself up.

Worn motor mounts can cause chatter.

Try doing SMOOTH second gear only take offs, for a MONTH. Just slowly let out the clutch ALL the way, at an idle & then give it the GAS.----That smoothed out Minervas' clutch beautifully!
Let me know if that worked & I'll explain WHY.

Mine was so bad it shuck rust and dirt for under the body :-( When I was repairing the car I checked the flywheel, pressure plate, and disc. Sanded the flywheel face, sanded the pressure plate, and bead blasted the disc. In testing after repairs where done the clutch was smooth as silk :-)

My 29 vibrated like a paint shaker, every time I started from a dead stop. I installed a new disc, a good looking used pressure plate, and dialed in the flywheel cover. I also used my 1/4 sheet electric sander to lightly sand the flywheel face. Now it's smooth as an automatic.

OK, I'll explain the "WHY" on post#7---Model As are commonly prone to clutch chatter on initial take off. Each time it chatters, it creates HIGHS & LOWS in the disc lining. Each time it does it, they get HIGHER & LOWER.
The idling second gear take off uses ONLY the HIGH spots for grip. SO, in time, they wear down to the same level as the LOW spots & it doesn't chatter any more.
HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE TO YOU, IT'S THE BEST I CAN EXPLAIN IT!
