Been using Petronix in my classic cars, Model A's and boats for 30 years. The only issue I had was self inflicted. Use the search function and you will find some detractors as well as people like me that think they're great. Research it and make your own decision.

The last time I looked into a Pertronix, they informed me that they did not offer their unit, but only to vendors that make a kit for the Model A. They suggested FSI and that they make a very nice kit. I know now there are others but I don't remember the names...

I used one on a 41 Packard, liked it very much. I used the hotter coil with it.

when I was thinking about buying a new dizzy I was having running problems. IT turned out to be intake leaks exhaust leaks and head gasket blown on the two back cyls giving 30 min of ok running then sputter then full stop no spark till the next day. the plugs were getting wet. And i couldn't time my car properly due to intake leak. Once my engine was good the old stuff with a tune up kit and a setting just advanced slightly of the nurex timing wrench my car is running great and tuned easily.

I just returned from our regular Thursday evening cruise where a load of non-A folk wondered what the hole in the radiator was for. So, with a stock ignition car, I pulled out the crank, slipped it in the hole, turned on the gas and ignition switch and with a ¼ crank fired the critter right up as they all stood in awe.

I personally see no reason to deviate from the stock distributor.

I have a pertronix in my 46 Dodge pickup. Often I wonder how much better it would be in my A. It sure woke up my old pickup. No more checking gap and replacing points. No more condensor problems...
