Model A Heater (new thread)
I was reading the earlier interesting comments on Model A heaters. I live in New England and there are many days I wish I could have a little heat but I don't want to cut up a perfectly good fire wall. The car is being restored so now is the time to think about it. Has anyone come up with a way to get some warm air coming through a modification in the upper floor board? Ed

Cut a hole in the floor board, and run a piece of flex pipe from the manifold with a piece of pipe or a flange that goes to the front up to the fan

Re: Model A Heater (new thread)
years ago there was a heater named a "Peter's Heater" that had a flex tube with a bell up by the fan, which ran to a housing that bolted two half shells to the exhaust pipe just in front of the muffler. Then a smaller flex pipe ran to a sliding gate in the top floorboard. A guy in Oregon named Franklin was reproducing them and selling them on ebay in the 90's. I got one for my virgin firewall SW sedan. I sure wish he was still making them because I now have a pickup with an intact firewall and it needs a heater. I've tried to find him, but no luck

When the weather gets colder, like it is now, I remove the "bell" from the flex duct and install a 6V defrost fan/housing from a 1940 Oldsmobile heater unit and it really pushes some warm air into the cab. Makes it really toasty inside. |

Re: Model A Heater (new thread)
one thing I did to the heater was to wrap the exhaust pipe, flex pipes and heater casting in that insulating wrap tape for headers. It increased the heat in the car noticeably. The burn in period sure stinks though. Its better to burn it in when the weather is warm enough to drive with your windows open. I'm not sure wrapping the type of heater that sits on the manifold would be a good idea.
