Default Fire extinguisher and mount for 30 Coupe

Looking for suggestions/ideas for a fire extinguisher to be carried in my 30 Coupe. I'm thinking about mounting it horizontally on the floor against the seat riser , right in front of the driver. Maybe attach the mount to the floor using the floorboard mounting screws. Anybody have any specific fire extinguisher they have used ?? thanks

I have a 2.5 lb Amerex Halotron fire extinguisher. It is mounted in my '30 Town Sedan's trunk so (hopefully) someone can get to it if I can not. I didn't feel it was a good idea to have it in the car as the fire would most likely be toward the engine/gas tank area.

I realize you're asking about a coupe, just giving an example...

This is exactly where I have mine. You are on the right track, fasten it so that it does not slide forward when you brake hard. I have a 5 lb. Halotron extinguisher there. It does not make a powdery mess when used. Do not use in an enclosed area. I bought mine at West Marine. They seemed to have the best price, $230 and free shipping. Not exactly cheap, but a lot cleaner if you ever need to use it.

I have watched several really nice cars (not Model A's) burn up the entire engine compartment for lack of an extinguisher. A real shame.

Mine is mounted w/supplied bracket to one of the existing screws on the RH kick panel. Fits perfect. I travel alone so it's not in the way.

I mounted mine in the trunk. I used the brace for the trunk panel.

Cool Re: Fire extinguisher and mount for 30 Coupe

I mount a 1 lb. empty coffee can with tie straps to the emergency brake lever in my "A's". To hold my fire extinguishers. In order too keep the extinguishers from rattling around I wrap shop towels around them. The fire extinguishers could not be in a more readily available place.

The best one I saw was a guy used a wooden box with a lid and wrapped it like a gift. then bolted the box to the parcel shelf and put the extinguisher inside the box.

That also works as a fire extinguisher in a tight spot!

I use the after market expandable luggage rack on the driver's running board. I carry water, oil an extinguisher wrapped in a rag and bungee corded to rack. loose on the package shelf is a missile waiting

I recommend attaching the extinguisher to the back bumper.
Generally if you have a fire, it will be at the engine, or at the dash.
You want anybody to use the extinguisher. You have about 2 minutes before it will take a 3 inch hose @ 100PSI to extinguish.

I found this Velcro strap on holder made for dune buggies to work well at holding a 2.5 pound extinguisher, and anyone can quickly get to it from the back of the car, and fight the fire forward, as the hood vents face the rear.

search Ebay for mount: Smittybilt 769540 Roll Bar Mount 2.5 Lb. Fire Extinguisher Holder Black

see attached picture.

OK..... a thought from a retired Firefighter, an extinguisher to save the car YES, but remember to save yourself! You do not want to be fumbling around in the interior of the car (under the gas tank) for the extinguisher. My choice with safety in mind would be the trunk or the outside mount shown by Tomball. You want to first get a safe distance from the fire, quickly evaluate the situation and decide if you want to attack the flames. No one wants to lose their prize Model A but your more important, no family member wants to loose the owner of that "A" and you sure as heck do not want to suffer 2nd and 3rd deg. burns. At some time during these seconds call 911. You have insurance for your car, it can be repaired or replaced. Not quite the same for the owner.
Also remember there is maintenance on the extinguisher.... just like the Model A, if it's not done, it may not start. And now I will dismount my platform.

Another thought, most of us have never used a fire extinguisher, talk to your local Fire Department, most Departments will give classes on the proper techniques and proper extinguishing agents to fight the dragon. This could be a club event (road trip) very informative "tour your local Fire Department" and "Extinguisher class" combined. The Firefighters would love to see the "A's" and are always eager to teach Fire Safety and show off their toys. Just a thought
