Default diaphragm clutch

How do I install a diaphragm clutch when I have an Auburn clutch already in. Car was finished and won an award but I began having clutch troubles. How can I fix this?

Flathead V8s came with neither clutch when new. Most of use use either the OEM Long type clutches or Borg & Beck clutches if a Mercury owner.

are you talking about the clutch or pressure plate, if the pressure plate its a chevy type, instead of 3 fingers on pressure plate the diafram type has i guess 20 fingers in a circle, if thats the type, just like the 3 finger type it just unbolts from the fly wheel with 5 or 6 bolts

Cannot even remember the last time I saw a clutch attached with "5 bolts". DD

I think the Auburn has the same six bolt spacing, 3 sets of 2 bolts closely spaced, as a Long pp, making it easily interchangeable on a Ford flywheel. The diaphragm will have six bolts , equally spaced maybe about 5 1/2" apart which I think is similar to the Merc flywheel for the Borg & Beck pp.
Either you will need to have the flywheel redrilled or change to a Merc flywheel. I do know when you switch from a B & B 3 finger pressure plate to a diaphragm pp on a GM engine it requires a longer throwout bearing as the diaphragm pp is not as tall.
The spring in a diaphragm pp is called a Belleville washer. Some pp's have so-called "bent finger" Belleville's to keep the clutch pedal from staying on the floor at 6500-7500 RPM, but a flathead will be fine with the flat finger type.

I've mentioned my diaphragm clutch before, and "as it happens" () it is out of the truck, so I took some pics. It is a rebuilt PP I got at NAPA in '07, under P/N CA30. It's a 10".

OK, I stand corrected, there is a diaphragm with the Long style bolt pattern. What is the original application and what kind of throwout bearing is required?

To tell the truth, I went into NAPA, asked for a rebuilt PP. He brought out the Long type. I said, Is there a diaphragm alternative? And he brought this one out. It has flat fingers, I'm using the original (truck) release bearing and disc. I've searched NAPA's website, the CA30 number comes up blank.

I have a diaphragm pressure plate just like the above pic, and I believe it's from a Falcon, but not sure what model.

And I swear by Auburn pressure plates; there is a reason they have been such a long time rodders favourite.

In 1964 my 39 Ford had a Buick engine in it. I bought that exact pressure plate from NAPA and ran a Ford truck 10" clutch and original throughout bearing. I never had any trouble with it.
