Default Disconnect Pitman Arm????

Friends.. I'm trying to separate the drag link from the Pitman Arm in my '29 coupe. Les Andrews says "turn the steering wheel slightly to the left.." doesn't help.... I've tried hammering at the drag link end but don't want to distort the thing.... Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..

I had the same problem. I guess if it hasn't been taken off in a long time rust can get to it. I would heat it up a bit to see if it budges.

Make sure the bolt is completely removed.

To Fhane & chrs I should have mentioned that I removed the cotter key, bolt, spring & pad.... I can see the ball inside the tube with lots of grease around it --- so I doubt there's rust .... I even took a dowel & hammered the ball (inside the tube) with no success... Thanks for your quick response... Keep Thinking..

Have someone move the steering wheel back and forth while pulling on it it should come right off.

And no doubt you found the "keyhole" arrangement of the hole which takes the pitman ball.

Yeah. Been there done that.

I used a regular gear puller on mine and it slid right off. Apply slight pressure with the gear puller, have someone wiggle the steering wheel back an forth, increase tension on gear puller while it's being "lightly" wiggled.
Again that bolt has to be totally removed as it sets in a groove on the shaft. Chap

Good advice except he was trying to remove the drag link not the pitman arm.

I found a prybar between the arm and tie rod will pop it right off.
