Default Anyone's email been hacked lately?

I got my Hotmail hacked about 10 years ago, and had to change my address and password, then the same thing happened about 5 years ago and I had to change my address and password again. Yesterday I got an email form someone on Fordbarn and knew they hadn't sent it, so I deleted it and let the guy know what happened. There was no message, but just a link to be clicked on with something about cheap airfares.

If anyone gets an email with my address that you think I may not have sent, please let me know so I can do something about it.

I used to get a lot of good jokes from Doug, but after the last hack about 5 years ago I lost Doug's address. Someone hacked into my Hotmail account and changed the password to lock me out. By the time I contacted Hotmail to try to get back into my account it was too late, and all my addresses had been removed.

BTW, to thwart these scammers from getting easy addresses I always forward by using the BCC and I also delete any addresses showing from the message that was sent to me.

I've talked myself horse telling some people to do this - they just don't get it. When I tell them that it is mine and everybody else's security at stake, their eyes glaze over. Seems some people are too dumb to listen. Maybe they shouldn't be allowed near a computer.

Yes, I'm not too good with computers, but learned about the "BCC" and delete all previous addresses a couple years ago, and asked my neighbor to do the same thing. He says it takes too much time, so he just forwards many things as he gets them, then I have a long list of addresses to delete. Even so, it only takes less than a minute to do so and this helps to keep everyone's address safe.

words of advice: change your passwords at least every three months... do NOT use words in an dictionary, cracking programs and figure those out in a minute or two. Change or get new credit and or debt card number once a year, and change your cell number every other year. DON'T USE CELL PHONES TO DO ONLINE BANKING

Can we assume you mean "DON'T use words in a dictionary"?

My oldest daughter's internet identity has been hijacked, as well as that of an old friend old mine. The email I use for non-acquaintance and commercial communication has been distributed to spammers. I may have to change it. PITA, because so many of my business and purchase accounts have it.

That's the way I read it. Numbers, punctuation, and odd, phonetic spellings make safer email addresses.

I have received a number of emails over the past several years from people my wife and I know. When the emails are opened, there is usually one or maybe two sentences stating "Hi, how are you doing" or something like that, with a link in blue. I used to notify the real people of the "hack" or whatever it is. Since we have received so many of the strange emails, I quit notifying the real email person(s). I have never clicked on the link, so I don't know what they are hawking. I don't understand how they expect anyone to respond to the obvious fake email, but maybe some people do.

My brother-in-law recently got hacked, they got into his address book and I have been inundated with span. Thank god I got g-mail so I can delete forever all the spam that appears without opening anything.

This hacking seems to be happening more frequently. My brother-in law had to get his computer cleaned at a rather expensive process. I have MacAfee for protection and so far have not had a problem; keeping my fingers crossed !!!!

I always send E. Mails to my self (Hackers would already have that) and BCC to everyone I send to. I always remove all the Address the last person didn't remove. Now if we can just get everyone on your list to do the same.

Yes . . . there is this Nigerian Prince who seems to have hacked into our Email. The guy keeps bugging me for a bank account number so he can park $4,000,000.00 in there. Sounds like a plan to me. m

I dunno I dont have issues with email spam or anything...I do get them rarely but just delete them.

Best thing you can do is use one email for family and close friends, one email for when you are selling something, and one that you never check for signing up on websites. That and dont enter any sweepstakes - by supplying your email you agree at a chance to win while they sell your known good email address and any other info you put in to all sorts of companies.

That and Norton and McAffee are awful programs...

Someone must have hacked ford barn, because the thread on "star rating" has disappeared.

Mine was hacked 4 days ago. I have an email account with the rural telephone co. Someone in India got ahold of my account and sent out 9845 emails in one night.

My account was shut down for spamming. Telephone rep hand delivered a new password to me yesterday.

Working OK now, but my "email contacts" has these 9845 email addresses that I have to delete individually. There's no "empty folder" option.

I think I would just close out that account and open a new one with a different username/password.
