Re: crank journal bolts
If I remember correctly, the square head is an uncommon size wrench, something like 25/32" I personally would not risk JB weld in the dipper tray. If it were to come free you'd risk catastrophic engine failure if it clogged a passage.

Re: crank journal bolts
I think you'll find that the square heads on those bolts are the same as the drain plugs in gearbox and diff. They are the same as a plumbing fitting which makes sense when you consider the philosophy behind Henry's design and how he wanted every farmer to be able to work on his car.
I file them down to 1/2" and I've made a special tool that is basically a short socket extension wit a nut welded to the male end. The female end goes onto the reduced bolt head and an ordinary socket on the welded nut.

Re: crank journal bolts
this was the era special wrench
there is a little pip on one corner of the square of the main bolts to show orientation of cotter pin hole on the other end to help line it up |

Re: crank journal bolts
8 point socket works just fine, 9/16" IIRC.

I like that tool in the pics above going to try and braze the dipper tray seems like the best way to go on that |

Re: crank journal bolts
I do believe I have a 4 point 9/16 socket I bought at a local industrial tool dealer like 25 years back.

Re: crank journal bolts
Square head sockets are the best, great for engine work and adjusting brakes.
