Jack Henry Intake Manifold Photo

This is for those (like me) who have never seen a Jack Henry intake manifold as posted in the wanted section. I have the feeling they are very rare.

V8: Thanks for posting that photo. I saw where there is a guy in the WANTED section looking for one. He said it would be a "long shot" if he found one so my curiosity gene peaked.

A god friend of mine passed away a few years ago and his son was wise enough to keep the Jack Henry manifold his dad a had. It was an early attempt at hot rodding the V8. It was basically a recast '32 intake with a 2 carb bridge cast over the original carb mount area and bolted to 2 holes cut into the manifold , one before the original carb pad and one after. Just for fun, he and a friend bolted the intake onto the friends '40 deluxe tudor and left the hood off. They went to a local run in San Diego and had a steady flow of people staring and asking questions about the "odd" manifold. They had a great day answering all the questions. I wish he takes pix, but neither thought of it at the time.

Jack Henry was my grandfather who built it, I can get you a lot of back information on one as my uncle is still actually searching for one , it would mean the world to us if we could get our hands on one. I’m curious as to who your friend was that passed away? I’m sure we definitely know him if he had his hands on one. Please any information would be great.

I always say it never hurts to ask...
The intake base is a stock 33 Ford part, with the riser for the Lubricator carb cut down and capped off. The upper section was cast new at the time and added to the modified base. These were done in the late 1930s, but I recall several years ago, someone on eBay was selling a top only that was out of a very small run of new made pieces. I want to say that there were only five or ten made then, but don't quote me on that. I read a quote somewhere that there were several hundred of them made originally.

If no-one has a Jack Henry, I'd be willing to settle for a Davies or an Alexander.... haha����

The Henry manifolds are interesting but crude. Given the crappy fuel delivery design of the 33 Ford intake, cutting a couple of holes in one and bolting on a 2 carb. adaptor seems like a good way to dump more gas into the motor with negligible or no performance enhancements. As can be seen by pages 14 & 15 from the June 1941 Throttle magazine, even then far superior intakes were available. That said, every flathead hot rodder should have one hanging on the wall.

To the O/P : I'd try to post this on the H.A.M.B. (the "Traditional Hot Rod Board"); they are more into old speed equipment the we are here and also have a much larger membership.
