i am going to be putting an old lincoln/ mercury overdrive in my 31 pickup. is there anywhere i can print out any tech literature and/or a parts diagram on these units. i found a diagram or two for the 50's od, which is very simular, but they don't want to print out.

Lincoln started using the R10 overdrive in the early 40s but they have a very long tail shaft for a torque tube with a weird rear mount on it. Ford & Mercury started using the R10 in 1949. Fords use the smaller input shaft and the narrow Borg Warner case bolt pattern. The Mercury cars had a case pattern just like the early Ford transmissions but they are side shift types. In 1949, the Lincoln used the Borg Warner T85 type transmission that was able to take a more heavy car with a big heavy 337 flathead and an R11 type overdrive.

The Ford and the Lincoln-Mercury cars have chassis parts manuals for parts break downs and overhaul manuals for that type of data. The stuff is available on CDs now. Borg Warner made manuals for their stuff but it was more or less just for the overdrive section since Studebaker, Nash, and many others used the overdrives from Borg Warner mated to their transmissions like Ford Motor Company did.

i got the o d from a friend who has dealt with a's for many years. a lot of the machining work and adapting has already been done. i just want a picture of the parts breakdown for my own interest as i want to tear it down to be sure everything is o.k. before installing.

A few machinists grafted them into the torque tubes like that for a while but I don't think anyone is doing that anymore. You still see them for sale now and them.
