The 36 pickup shares the same chassis and running gear as the 36 passenger car. Any good 36 rolling chassis is a good place to start.

A good place to start is right here ! I recommend you put an ad in the swap meet section under " wanted " , w/your needs for this project . It works quite well for me !

Does a parts interchange manual exist to tell you what parts from another mdel or year will work with the 36 pickup?

There is no interchange manual that I am aware of. A good 36 chassis and body list would be helpful.

are you going to do a restoration or make a good driver out of it? 35 to 40 car and 41 pick up frames are basically the same. 39 up have hydraulic brakes but the "self energizing/floating" conversions do make a good alternative. how about give us a location there may be some barners close by who can help

Highland Rich...There are a lot of people on Fordbarn whose skill sets and knowledge far exceed mine. The 35 through 37 frames from either a passenger car or pickup will have the holes tapped for the front fender braces, front inner fenders, running boards, cab mounts, and the like for mounting a 36 pickup to the frame. 1938-1940 frames are the same as 35-37 dimensionally but the mounting holes for mounting a 36 pickup to the frame, not so much. For someone with my skills having the ability to mount the pickup cab and sheet metal to existing holes is a blessing. Mr. Rogers is spot on when it comes to a place to start. The 36 chassis is actually unique to a 36.

Karl Wescott, here on the Barn, might be a good source to answer that question.

If you are building a street rod you can get a new chassis from companies like TCI, Chassis Engineering, or So-Cal Speed Shop. Nobody builds a new stock frame. First you need to figure out how you want to build the pickup. Stock, slight modifications, or a full on street rod? Get a plan and stay with it. It's tough to give any advice if we don't know what is your plan.

The trick to building a vehicle up from parts is to do as it has been suggested, form a plan as to what you want, stoker of street rod.
If you want it to be stock, watch the want add's, craighslist, ebay for a chassis. I have picked up several running driving chassis from guys that have bought nice vehicles which they street rodded.
Street Rodders do some very dumb things...

I just found this cab and front end (unexpectedly) at Carlisle last week and I am trying to figure out the approach that I want to take. Right now I am leaning towards keeping body and appearace as close to original (love the look) and just updating drive train - don't have any exerience with flatheads. I use my cars so it won't be a trailer queen.

You might want to post over on the HAMB as well.

I found a 1937 frame is there any difference between 36 and 37 frames - this frame comes with 60hp flathead so I am interested - but would like bigger flathead - any issues with interchange of flathead motors?

The bigger flathead will fit in that frame. If the transmission is with the "60" that trans will only fit the "60" motor. If there is a rear end the gear ratio is probably very low and not good for a tour type car.

The frames are all basicly the same through these years, but there are some differences as to where holes are, how the radiator mounts, that sort of stuff.

I do not believe that 36 model year had a 60hp engine option. The 37 frame should have the mounting holes for the 36 pickup cab and sheet metal. The brake mechanism is not the same but if you are going to change it up and run juice brakes, the 37 frame will work just fine. The 37 frame will not have the battery box that the 36 frame has and I do not believe the shocks are the same in terms of how they mount to the frame. If the 37 frame is a complete chassis and has a 60hp, someone who knows more about 60hp drivetrains might help, but I think that the rear end ratio would be different from what one would typically find in a 36 pickup with the V8.
