57 Tbird dual action Vacuum/FuelPump.
G'day, can anyone tell me if the vacuum unit atop the fuel pump has any action in relation to the fuel pump itself? I've installed electric wiper motor and would actually like to disconnect the 2 x hoses from the inlet manifold and to the old wiper motor area under the dash/firewall but don't know if it will have an impact on the fuel pump operation??? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I live in Perth, Western Australia and there aren't many old Tbirds on the road over here. Any advice will be gratefully received, thanks.

Re: 57 Tbird dual action Vacuum/FuelPump.
You can leave the two vacuum hoses off of the fuel pump without affecting its operation.
IF you want an operational heater and it has the original heater setup you will need a vacuum hose from the existing fitting on the intake manifold to the dashboard heater controls. Photo: showing the "T" fitting in the vacuum lines under the dashboard where the vacuum line from the engine connects to the wiper motor and heater controls. The "T" fitting can be removed and connect the hose from the engine directly to the hose for the heater controls. Last edited by dmsfrr; 04-28-2020 at 12:50 AM. Reason: add photo |

Re: 57 Tbird dual action Vacuum/FuelPump.
NOT a dumb question at all -- a very valid question.
That part of the dual action fuel pump is strictly for the vacuum wipers -- which you have eliminated with electric wipers.... Now, not necessary, leave alone. And when that pump fails, I can give you a single action fuel pump (which is ethanol gas compatible... If you have the 10 % garbage gas that we have here .... Yuck!!!) G'Day Mate...... Cheers..... Yours, Craig..... Welcome to the Ford Barn..... |

Really appreciate the advice and fuel pump offer. I've disconnected and rearranged the vac hose arrangement for the heater. Many thanks Rob |
