Royal Purple Ice
Does anyone have experience using Royal Purple Ice in the radiator cooling system? I am looking for a corrosion inhibitor/pump lube to mix with water. Prefer to use water for cooling than antifreeze. All comments or suggestions appreciated.

Re: Royal Purple Ice
i think it is a mistake not to use a 50/50 antifreeze mixture that already contains the rust inhibitor and pump lube and the additive will likely be fairly expensive on its own. Search previous posts on the issue. Some times money not spent is not money saved. Wayne

I use NAPA 1300 Rust Inhibitor and distilled water.

I use a couple ounces of water soluable oil in tap water, and denatured alcohol for anti-freeze.

Re: Royal Purple Ice
Research or search the subject. The true experts on this site suggest you use a 50/50 antifreeze mixture. Don't make up a Mickey Mouse concoction ! If you can afford an A you should be able to afford antifreeze! Wayne

Re: Royal Purple Ice
I suppose my main concern is internal and external head gasket leakage. I have had multiple situations with different engines, that have been properly cared for, show leakage over time with antifreeze but not on water. The chemistry of ethylene glycol seems to be more inclined to breaching the head gasket. Getting a bit old to fight the problem.
I don't drive in cold weather. Cooling is good on water but I am not that comfortable with the corrosion inhibitor. Don't want to do damage to the radiator before I find a problem. There are a lot of people on Fordbarn that run with water and I am interested in the products they use. |

Re: Royal Purple Ice
My Engine Rebuilder recommended I add BARRS LEAK Head Gasket sealer on my new engine which does not leak at the head gasket after 10,000 miles of use including high speed driving and such.
Could that be a solution for you rather than making your own brew? |

Re: Royal Purple Ice
bottom line is most people that don't use antifreeze do not use it because they think they are being penny wise in other words they are downright cheap.
