I see a visable pump dispensing 10% corn gas in the 30's.

Thanks as always great pictures. One thing I did see no over weight people. This was before our fast food generation.

Fabulous!!! Love going down memory lane with these old photos. I like the one from 1938 with the 2 men in "Bell Cap" uniforms polishing the glass, while 2 others check air pressure and fill the gas. How could a station make payroll back then, when only charging pennies for gas?
Great times in our history.

Back in the early '50's you were able to climb up into the "Old Bomber" and I can remember doing it. It is on old US Hwy 99 going south out of Portland, Or. I believe it is still there.

It looks like the three "suits" at the corn alcohol pumps would blow you away in a heart beat if you looked at them cross eyed!

The 5th picture has quite a line of self serve pumps. Looks like an Irving station today......Mark

Yes, the bomber is still there but it isn't a gas station any more. There's now a bomber restaurant back of the gas pumps in the picture run by descendants of the guy that bought the bomber and flew it up to the Portland area.

I worked pumping gas and washing cars at a station in 1958. Pay was $2.00 a day.
