Default 40 business coupe rear upholstery

I recently obtained a 40 deluxe business coupe and the rear section below the rear window is without any upholstery what so ever. This has the two jump seats. Am considering re-doing the interior and have searched the forum and obtained some valuable information. What I have failed to come across is any reference to how the original back section under the window was constructed. Was there one single long piece of paneling material which was upholstered or were there two or more pieces which covered this area? Any response will help me get started with this project. Photos would also be great. Thanks

Members here helped me with what went under the rear window as I only had the 2 curved metal pieces with the tack strips inside. I am sure someone will have a picture of the finished product. I have original upholstery that is out of the car that appears to have a maybe 3" roll at the top as it curves around across the back under the rear window with wood blocks on the tunnel and floor to hold the bottom of the panels.

There should be a piece of sheet metal angle running from below the tack strip down to the floor to form a corner on each side. You can see one in the photo.

The one piece panel goes across the back from angle to angle and the two side panels wedge it back into the angles.

The brown upholstered car is one I pulled of the net.

Thanks for the info. 47 Merc, was the long panel going across the back originally made of the black heavy cardboard type material?

You can see the location for the spare tire in the photo below.

Terry,
I see the 2 vertical strut (arms) but where does the spare fit in relation to them? Mine is mounted on the left arm. Left as you are looking at the photo ( right side of the car).

In the photo above the hardware for mounting the spare is on the right upright(sitting in the car) you can also see the mounting bolts in the wood for the spare tire bracket. Maybe you can download the photo and blow it up. The photo also shows the wood installation (on the floor and the top of the torque tube tunnel) for the back interior panel.

The spare wheel was originally mounted on the upright on the right side of the car.
The photo I posted above of my car with the green spare wheel shows it is mounted in the centre.
This was done by a previous owner and I haven't got around to changing it because it means having to re do the carpet etc. around it. Maybe one day I'll get the urge after I do the other twenty things that need doing but at least it's on the road and driving.

Thanks all. Little by little I'm seeing how things line up. Still not sure if the back panel is one piece that stretches across the entire width of the rear section.
