Stolen 1929 model a ford speedster and trailer
This trailer with Michigan license plate located at top of back of trailer # D585324 which belong to our National Organization "The Model A Restorers Club" was stolen from our property between 7pm last night and 9 am this morning. Picture is attached as well as the registration. Inside were parts for the rolling chassis again being put together for the children that attend the National meet. But also inside was an orange 1929 Model A Speedster that we just purchased for our 12 year old grandson. Pictures attached. Please help us find it. If you see either one, please call the police and call me st 419-704-5335. My grandson is devastated! Please repost this and ask everyone you know to do so as well. Thank you, Linda Cook

I suggest removing the photos of the paper work, the guys that took the stuff will now have all the information to maybe get title.

Re: Stolen 1929 model a ford speedster and trailer
Call a local news station and see if they are interested in doing a news story on the theft. There is enough human interest in the chassis and its purpose to easily be put on the local news station. That is the best way to make the contents and trailer too hot for the perps to keep and hopefully they will dump it on a side street . Good luck!

Re: Stolen 1929 model a ford speedster and trailer
It's also another reminder for every one to put some big numbers or some other I.D. Markings on the top of your enclosed trailers. It makes them easier to spot from the air.
If they are stolen it makes them much easier to find. It works. The thieves don't look on top of the trailers. |

Re: Stolen 1929 model a ford speedster and trailer
I take it it was somewhere in NW Ohio (419 Area Code)? Or Arizona (according to the regestration)? Or Michigan (Michigan regestration)?. Where is one to start looking?

Re: Stolen 1929 model a ford speedster and trailer
A buddy of mine had his enclosed trailer stolen. He had his name in large vinyl lettering on the side. He found someone towing it maybe a year later. The vinyl had been removed but you could clearly see the name because the paint faded. He blocked it in at a gas station and called the cops. They came and let the guy go (with the trailer) because the serial numbers were ground off.

That's why this stuff is so rampant. The crooks usually get away with it, or at most they get a slap on the hand.

Re: Stolen 1929 model a ford speedster and trailer
You folks with trailers are lucky you don't live in South Carolina. You don't have to have a registration(license plate) or a title. I've has 2 stolen from my garage down here. Cut the chains on my gate and knocked the locks of the hitches. The local cops could care less. If this State would make it mandatory to register and plate the trailers-these trailers wouldn't be such huge targets for thieves.

I told her I wanted to anyway - she said it would cost. I'm willing to pay a couple dollars every year to know my trailer has a chance of being tracked. I normally only use the trailer when I am traveling out of state anyway, and I didn't want any hassle with states that require tags.

yea thats the sad part- if a thief wants something bad enough it doesn't matter how well you secure it. Does insurance pay for complete replacement trailer cost when it is stolen?

Re: Stolen 1929 model a ford speedster and trailer
I remember asking him about that but I don't remember his answer. He didn't do that as far as I remember though. He'd have to do it without getting caught. I bet he'd go to jail for going on someones property and stealing it back because he can't prove it's his.

The best deterrent to theft is open season on thieves.

You are correct that you don't need to register it, but always remember that your trailer can be sans a license plate in about 30 seconds by a thief with a small screw gun. The best way IMO is to install a small GPS tracking device to the undercarriage of the trailer. If the trailer becomes missing, just use your smart phone to detect the location. |

Re: Stolen 1929 model a ford speedster and trailer
If you had an enclosed generator mounted in front, you should be able to get a lojac installed on it. When I was working construction, every piece of equipment that able to have a lojack, got it. I recovered every piece that was stolen. We prosecuted every incident. One guy sat in jail for 2 years, he attempted to steal several pieces with a United Rentals flatbed truck. It helps to have some buddies. We have undercover auto theft task forces in each county. I got to know them quite well over the years.
