Default Evolution of the A-4025 Rear Axle Diff. Housing...

The differential housing, A-4025, was made up of two parts...A-4027 (Rear Axle Differential Housing Center Sleeve, for which the Torque Tube is attached to) and A-4026 (Rear Axle Differential Housing Body).

In viewing the A-4025 Rear Axle Differential Housing, I have found so far, four (4) different (USA) types:

1. Housing showing a horizontal weld line top and bottom of A-4027 with center located drain and fill plugs (Unknown time period);

2. Housing showing NO horizontal weld lines with center located drain and fill plugs (Unknown start date to Early 1929);

3. Housing with exterior gussets, top and bottom of housing with center located drain and fill plugs (Early 1929 to mid 1930);

4. Housing with exterior gussets, top and bottom of housing with ofset located drain and fill plugs. (Mid 1930 through production).

So, those of you who have studied the early housings...what came first, #1 or #2?

Ford made a change in the welding of these two parts, A-4027 and A-4026...Could that have been the reason for the difference? OR...were these "horizontal weld marks" the reenforcing ribs top and bottom for which Ford makes mention?

Also for those who have original assembled vehicles, what do you have on your car? #1 or #2...And about what month of production is your car?

There may be another very early housing that was made and assembled but that is yet to be discovered.

This is where the four holes (two on each side of the housing) are open...not closed as seen on later housings.

This an't over yet boys and girls!

Well....here we go.

I assume we are talking about "production" banjos?

1. I think that's correct.
2. I think that's correct.
3. That should be # 4,.....# 3 this one is missing in the photos!
4. That would be # 3 on your sheet.
5. That would be #4 on your sheet.
