Phaeton standard 1929
Good afternoon
I'm new to the forum. Excuse me if I'm to commit any errors. I am restoring a Phaeton 1929 standard, with the originality as possible. I would like to get some data: a - what kind of windshield wiper - vacuum or electric? b - on all fins of the bonnet was painted friezes? c - could post pictures detailing aspects of originality to the car in question? Thank and I waiting for answers Carlos |

Re: Phaeton standard 1929
Carlos-
I do not know about the correct wiper motor. The fins on the sides of the hood had no stripes, just paint solid body color. Here is a link to a photo album of a 1929 Phaeton (not my car) that might help you. http://img688.imageshack.us/g/dscn0293d.jpg/

Re: Phaeton standard 1929
The hood would be only 1 color, with NO pinstripes.

Re: Phaeton standard 1929
It's interesting how people quote the American judging standards for outside US cars. Carlos' location appears as Brazil, which could mean that they had different paint schemes. In Australia, some paint schemes had lined bonnet louvres, and it could also be that Brazilian delivered cars also had painted louvres, not that Australian standards apply to Brazil, but neither should the US standards.

Re: Phaeton standard 1929
Bruce, I don't have any historic pictures of A's. I don't think there would have been too many roo bars on cars in the thirties in Australia. Roads were not of highway standard out of cities, even if they were called highways. A lot were nothing but glorified cattle tracks, which meant slow going and lots of time to stop for roos and emus.

Re: Phaeton standard 1929
An electric wiper was available in 1929. I have used both and much prefer the electric.

Re: Phaeton standard 1929
Thank you for your suggestion.
I inform : in Brazil the automotive industry began to be developed from the mid-1950s. The earlier cars were imported and therefore the changes made was disfigured the originality of the car. What I do is just a RESTORATION with as maximum ORIGINALITY (of fabrication) as possible. |

Re: Phaeton standard 1929
(a - what kind of windshield wiper - vacuum or electric?)
Carlos, I have a standard 1929 Phaeton with origional windshield & mine had only one manual wiper over the driver side of the wind shield. I think there was an aftermarket braket that aloud 2 wipers to be used at the same time. I am also lucky enough to have the original glass as well. Shawn |

Re: Phaeton standard 1929
And the plastic sheet between the glass has not yellowed?
