Default Clutch drive train, what's going on here?

You can see my post elsewhere on here regarding my Deere speedster which has an "A" drive train. I am still having clutch linkage issues. If I jack up the rear wheels with it in gear and the clutch engaged, and turn a rear wheel it does not turn the engine. If I turn the engine with a crank, it does turn the rear wheels.
It also has a Ford-dual-high in the drive train.

If both wheels are off the ground it will not turn the engine.

But the opposite wheel will go backwards at the same speed. That's how it has been for a bit over 100 years.

I guess I'm a little behind the latest news.

Isn't that the way a differential works?

In case you have not seen this before, is very interesting.

Has been previously been posted on the Barn.

If needing background on differentials, hope this helps.

What type of clutch set up does the car have and how is it interfaced with the model A drive train? At least the rear wheels turn when the engine is hand cranked. The differential action sets up a different reaction than a lot of folks would figure until they rotate a few and see how they act. One wheel has to be held firm for it to turn back through the drive train. If you just jack up one side, it should turn.

It has a clutch and engine from a John Deere model "LA" tractor. I think that I have pressure plate issues.

OK, don't answer the questions.

I don't know a lot about these but I have seen a few over the years. Some had the reduction drive unit offset to one side on the back bell and the LA tractors had the straight out drive back there to connect the transmission & rear axle set up of the tractor. The LUS just had a big sheave on the back with a straight out drive. All likely had a similar clutch set up but different throw out set ups depending on the application. The integral bell on those motors might limit the type of clutch you can fit in there but the original may be adequate as long as it's in good condition.

The smaller Hercules 2-cylinder engines were similar and have a removable bell housing but they didn't have as much power as the 16+ HP LUC type engines. Ft Wayne Clutch might be able to rebuild the clutch pressure plate & disk but a person would have to call to see for sure. There are still parts available for them but I'm not sure of the best sources.
