When I was looking for a 1933 I especially wanted the original interior in at least usable shape. Because I knew that when I stepped inside the car I could feel the atmosphere of the 30's. The outside of the car was not that important to me, although I wanted original metal...It turned out that I was able to removed the repaint and have an original exterior too. Succh a deal!

Just like people.... The ones without wrinkles are wonderful to look at, but its the weathered ones that are truly interesting.

I am led to believe that this Australian 1934 Ford had the original paint back in the early 70's when it was sold by the original owners. The new owner decided that he wanted a better paint job and a different colour, so stripped off the original paint and started again. If only, he had decided to keep it in it's original state. It was one nice car, still is, but has lost its originality.

Most people back then thought that repainting was the way to go. Today we think differently. Repainting is a good option when you have almost no original finish to work with. Then painting should be expertly done to produce a showroom like finish...Which can be quite beautifully. I don't think I like the side mounted spares on a ford. They look great on a larger car, Lincoln, Chrysler, Buick, Packard, but on a ford they seem almost out of place. Maybe just my preference.

Side Mounted Spare Wheels were common on the Australians 1932 through 1934 Fords. Here is a picture from the original Sales Brochure showing these side mounted Spares. Most cars only had a Single Spare, mounted on the Passenger (left) side of the car, however, buyers could add a 6th Spare at extra cost. There are not many 6 wheel equipped 33/34 Fords in Australia.

The roadster looks cute! By the fender spares on the fordor seems out of place.

Well you got the fun part right. Really fun to see your trucks. It has taken a lot of time for the car hobby to see the value of original paint. I don't mean the monetary value, but the true value. Museums traditionally have not sandblasted and repainted every artifact they have acquired. They knew many years ago that we'd want to see the piece as it was in use. Likewise on a movie set the designers did not restore every depression era automobile to be showroom correct. We all loved seeing the Jodes driving that well worn truck across the country and I won't even get started on the Beverley Hillbillies. Did we watch that and say " Dang that thing needs a set of fiberglass fenders and 12 coats of laquer, then it would be a cool car"? There is that guy , maybe in Vegas that has a television show and he restores treasures for folks. He just can't wait to get his hands on somebody's old pedal car with perfect pin striping and aged paint and make it new again. Old steam calliope,l same thing.... Gag me with a brake spoon.

A sad thing was many of the john Dillinger used and owned cars were actually repainted later to make them look new, with the exception of Dillinger's Terra plane which looks like it has original paint.
Here is one of the cars he used to escape The Little Bohemia G-man raid.

It still brought a large some of money..but I think they wasted their money..
Different if it were not redone. But Dillinger collectible stuff always commands top dollar.
