Heater Motor Wiring Replacement
Need some help replacing the heater motor to switch wiring on my 40 Deluxe hot water heater with a 46-48 switch. Got the new harness & opened up the motor, I'd previously tested the motor & it ran fwd & reverse. The new wiring has to be soldered into the motor & the brush wires are easily accesable , but the field wires are in the bottom of the case & hidden. So, does the field assy. just pull out of the case to access the wires? It seems pretty tight & I didn't want to force it since I don't know what I'm doing.
The old original wires all seem to be similar shades of brown & not identifiable with the color codes of the new harness & wiring diagram. how do I ID the "short field wire, long field wire, fwd brush wire, & rev brush wire" with the proper terminals? The inside of the motor is black & dirty with carbon from the brushes, can I spray this with brake/carb clean or ?. Thanks, Bob |

Re: Heater Motor Wiring Replacement
They make spray cleaners for electrical applications, I buy it at my automotive parts store. Carburetor cleaner is bad for rubber, it and brake cleaner will both attack paint and possibly the varnish type of motor insulation.
Sorry, I can't help with how to take your motor apart. |

Re: Heater Motor Wiring Replacement
I hope someone can post a good simple diagram for this. I have a NOS heater in my 47 that I have never wired to the switch.

Re: Heater Motor Wiring Replacement
Post # 12 of this thread has a heater wiring diagram. When you bring it up go up to the tools symbol on the upper right of the tool bar and zoom it to 200% so you can read it. Good luck.
