early generators
Who sells parts to rebuild cut-out relay generators, like the dual tapered bearings pre-load adjustment screw which is some kind of soft pot metal with a wire ring to lock it when the adjustment is done? I can't seem to find anyone selling parts except brushes or bearings. Thanks for any help. The part was destroyed when removing.

Re: early generators
Allenwoodieman, Thanks but I don't need a generator and I figured that I might have to make the bearing retainer. Thanks, Lawrie, I will look up barnfind 08

Re: early generators
I got real tired of them machined some out of aluminum...found out the hard way that if they aren´t going into the thread real easy the anodizing gets scored and they corrode to...perhaps brass or stainless would be better if the looks doesn´t matter.

Re: early generators
There is an article in the V8 Times several years ago written by Charlie Schwendler about replacing the double bearing with one sealed bearing and two spacers. Send Charlie an email and he can direct you.

Re: early generators
Be sure to check the axial loading of the replacement sealed singe bearing, its WAY lower than the stock twin tapered rollers, thats because it has the fan hanging off the front.

Re: early generators
FF,
The kits I sell replace the pair of tiny Timkens with a DOUBLE ROW SEALED bearing...at least twice the load carrying ability of the Timkens. I have dozens of these bearing change overs in use....zero issues.... I've got the take up 'nuts' as well, no shields or fancy retainers required. Charlie ny |
