Default V8 60 block

Just found out the block for my 1933 PODH race boat we are restoring is cracked.
Checking all my contacts and thought I would ask here too. Any recommendations? Are the cast motor mounts on the block all the same for every year? Also what about the cast mounts on the "French" blocks, are they the same as on the domestic 60s?
We are located in central Kalifornia. I realize that's MY problem.

Motor mounts on USA blocks are made on the front cover, and transmission. Ray

Can't the machine shop fix the crack?

Most of the V8-60 engines are similar but the 37/38 engines have the tin sides (actually stainless steel). The 1940 engine is the one to find if you can. The V8-60 was produced in the UK a lot longer than the US. The French Vedette 60 and SIMCA Aquilon 80 HP engines were made clear up into the early 60s. The Brazilian ones would be the later ones but I really don't know much about the French based engines.

It just depends on where you are at.

The water pumps changed in there somewhere on the front water manifold/engine mount but I don't know if they will interchange or not.

Regarding fixing the crack, yes they say they can but I am skeptical. Out in the water I can't exactly call Hagerty for a tow. I do remember now about the tin sides. The broke engine did not have the tin sides. We have made motor mounts based on the broke engine, so I'm wondering if the French blocks have the same engine mount casting for the mounts? If I can see the engine before I buy it, I will be able to tell. We're probably going to use electric water pumps.

Don't get the French SUMB army truck engines confused with the Matford or Simca stuff. The French SUMB truck engines are like a cross between the 59 series blocks and the 8BA series of blocks. They were available in 100 and 110 HP (239 & 255 CID) just like the Ford and Mercury V8 engines of the late 40s & early 50s.

The Simca V8-60 engines are harder to source unless you are in South America or Europe. The V8-60 engines made at Dagenham in the UK would be easier to find. The Brazilian made ones ended up overhead valve like an Ardun conversion and they are expensive if you can find them here in the USA. They were the highest HP version. Instead of Hemi, they called them the Emi-Sul. Chrysler helped them develop it in the 60s.

Hey Oakhurst, a good buddy of mine has a NOS V8-60 block . . . in the crate. He bought it for a vintage race project, then the rest of the project went south. I believe it is a 40 block and with the big crank journals (which is the best one). So - let me know what type of block you're looking for - and the corresponding crank, and I can ask him. There are not many chances to buy a NOS block . . . and if I was into V8-60s, I'd be on his doorstep. He doesn't have it for sale, but I might be able to twist his arm! LOL

PS: He's in SoCal . . . so at least he's somewhat close.

1937 was the only year for the stainless steel side block. All after were cast iron. Ray

Correct, and it was only the early '37's that had Tin/SS sides.

Oakhurst, I have a '40 60hp V8 engine that was used in hydroplane racing back in the '60's. It has been bored at least once, but should be good for another rebuild. PM me if you have any interest.

Click on the persons name you want to PM and you get a drop down menu. The second item in the list is for PM. As an example if you wanted to PM me, you would click on JSeery and then on "Send a private message to JSeery". A window will open up that is used for PMs. The first attachment is the drop down menu and the second one is the window that opens up.
