Default 1930 rear bumper spreader bar.

While doing a routine check I discovered my rear spreader bar has broken right at the bend. Closer inspection revealed a repair by brazing. The bar itself had been "center punched" long before I bought the car so repair is a not likely. SOOO my question is this. Has anyone had experience with purchasing a re-pop? Is the quality decent or would I be better off looking for a good original. Winter is here so time is on my side to try and locate a good original. Cheers. TB

Try Bert's in CO for an original. According to their web site they have over half a million original parts...

I believe there are 3 different spreader bars for 1930 model year cars. The first was the one used on 28-29 cars which is the round tube. Next the stamped piece but with 3 bolts on each side. And finally, the stamped piece with 2 bolts on each side.

I have compared a stock 2 bolt stamped cross brace with a repop and the stock is substantially heavier metal.

If you had ever considered putting a trailer hitch on your car, you could "kill 2 birds with one stone". This trailer hitch just replaces the bumper spreader bar.
