Default Water pumps

A guy wants me to come and look at a bunch of T parts. He said he had some water pumps for them. I know these were aftermarket. What is the best thing to look for on them. I don't want to buy junk. I have never messed with a water pump for a T.

The vast majority of Henry's 15,000,000 T-bones left the factory without a water pump and performed just fine on the "thermosyphon" principle. Kinda like those 24" rims you see on some cars now-a-days.....just not a necessary item to get the car down the road just fine. DD

My old T guy that got me into Ts said
" a water pump on a T is just another place to leak !!"
and thats been pretty much true.
The thermosyphon has worked just great for years .......

I figure they they work fine without them. I'm wanting a model a roadster body the guy has. But to buy it I have to buy all his car stuff. That includes T parts and a 27 touring body. He thinks they are neat. And to some neat is worth more money. Are some worth more than the others. He has a lot of nos parts. And this is some of it.

Some of us may be willing to help you out with some of those parts, Bart. If he gives you time, please let us know what's there...

I will let y'all know what I find. I know he has some aftermarket coil springs for the front ends of T's. And he said he even had some nos rear ends. I think from the way he talked they are Ruxtle rears. Not for sure. He went to a auction at a ford dealership that had closed down in the late 50's. And he said they still had tons of nos T parts and A parts. There will be lots of digging. It's all in a few old shops.

At a swap meet a few years back I bought a very nice one fully restored for $100. I probably paid too much and did not need it, but it looks great.

My 26 had a water pump that kept leaking. I pulled it and found the thrust area was worn badly and the internal spring was rusted into several pieces. So look inside if possible.

Waterpumps look nice hanging on the wall. Henry never put one on at the factory.

I hope to get by that guys place soon. Things have been pretty hectic lately. A guy I know that messes with antique tractors. Is going to be getting me some pictures of a quite a few T's that are sitting out on a place. Could be promising I was told he did not have much interest in them.

If a T is overheating it's not from lack of a water pump. As others have said, it should run OK without one. I would take the price of a water pump and put it toward fixing whatever in causing the overheating. The two main causes are: Rust and crud in the cooling system; a worn out radiator that doesn't radiate anymore. The cure for the first is cleaning. For the second, it's replace or recore.

The first 2500 Model T's had water pumps on them FROM THE FACTORY, the rest did not. End of story.....

There is a guy by the name of "Royce" that might want a few to add to his wall collection.

I took the water pump off of my '27 after repairing it several times. It runs better and cooler without it.

The only time my T boiled over was when I shut the engine off. With a water pump. I took that off five T's ago and never boiled again. I do add anti-freeze.

I don't have any on my wall. I cut them in half with a band saw and then throw them away.
