Default OT Cadillac Flathead

I know this is not Ford related. But I got a lead on a guy that might have some Cadillac Flatheads. Would anyone have any ideas on what to look for on these? I have never delt with one. And would like to know a little what I'm looking at if the lead pans out. A guy that worked for the guy told me about them.

Make sure that basic accessories are there such as distributor, starter, water pump, flywheel, exhaust manifolds and fuel pump. These might be hard to locate. Carb is a four bolt base which is common configuration and any gen or alt could be made to work.

I've built a few of them, they have hydrolic lifters, The LaSalle engines looks the same but has a 1/8 smaller bore. There heavy brutes. I can look up the HP when I go out in the shop. Walt

I had a '41 Caddy. Had stuck valves same as Ford. Repaired it and got it running. They look cool in an open engine compartment with exhaust coming out the top.

Ok thanks. From what i understand. The guys dad was in the salvage business from the 40's on up to the 60's. The old man would pull all the motors from cars and put them in one of the big barns or shops they have. Along with the transmissions. I was all so told there are quite a few ford flatheads in there. I know the Cadillacs are not come by that often. Are they still worth getting if all is not there?

The guy saved the engines AND the transmissions?" The transmissions are what I'd be after!

If there are Lasalle transmissions there. They will be one of the first things I try and get. The guy that told me about them. Is a junk car guy. And does some fixing and selling of cars he picks up. He won't mess with older cars. And said he and the guy that he worked for that owns them. Has no idea what it all is. An he said he had no idea either. But knows enough to know what some of the motors were.

Here is a build thread about the one we run at Bonneville.
Lots of pics of the internal parts.

Hi all; My Cad had been cracked in the exhaust ports, repaired and it cracked again. A good block will stay good if not over heated. The water pumps and some accessories have a good core value. Newc
