Default 1947 Ford 6cyl generator pulley

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of an issue here. I shipped a generator for a 47 Ford 6cyl G series via the USPS. It was in a priority mail box, and packed tight. Apparently they dropped it because the guy I shipped it to sent me a pic, and a piece of the pulley is cracked off.

Can someone please tell me what year/model pulleys will fit the factory generator? Also, I cant really afford to buy a new one and send it to the guy, so I'm looking for a used one.

Also, anyone ever deal with an issue like this before? I don't want to be a jerk and tell the guy it's not my problem, because that's not how I am. I'd prefer to resolve this problem and just not tell him to deal with it.

Not that it helps finding a pulley, but did you talk to the Post Office about the damages? If your customer saved the damaged box and has some pics of it, it may help with him following up with the USPS on the other end. They do have some responsibility for the package, even if no extra insurance was put on the item. There also may be a minimum or standard loss value on uninsured packages. Either way, I'd see the Postmaster in person. Can't hurt. Even a few bucks refunded for proven damages offsets the cost of a replacement pulley.

Well, I talked to the guy via email late last night and he said he was just going to take care of it himself. Kind of feel bad about it, but I guess "shit happens." Just don't like knowing that something I sold to someone was fine when it went out, and then arrived broken. But, it happens. Such is life.

USPS is less expensive than other services. I had the same experience with a Model A generator it wasn't insured and I assumed the loss.

P.S. Always include insurance when shipping or receiving when using USPS

OK, I'm not pointing fingers at anyone but it has always been my understanding if a item is lost or broken in shipping the person that did the shipping still "owns" the item until the person receiving it gets it in good condition. Hence, if it was broken during shipping, the "shipee" should rectify the problem.

That's why, you as the "shipee" pays for insurance.

Now I'm not saying this is always true, this is my just understanding and as usual just my 1¢ worth.

Usually the buyer in a non-business transaction opts for the shipping insurance. Just about anything sold on EBay for instance between two people always asks the buyer if they want insurance equal to the purchase price. My understanding is that once the item is shipped via a reputable carrier, it's between the buyer and the carrier. Even if the packaging is crappy. IMO anyways.

When I had a claim with UPS, I had to have the Seller (shipper) make the claim,
and when UPS settled, they sent the check to the him, the shipper.
I was lucky, and he, the shipper sent me the settlement amount.

I recently shipped a part USPS uninsured. It was the last uninsured package I will send. The box was torn open and the $125 part was lost. I made good on the part to the buyer as he could not have insured it...that was up to me.
Insurance seems cheap now!

UPS insures each package automatically for up to $125 I think as part of the deal. At least they used to. With USPS, you're right, the shipping party has to request and pay the insurance at the time of shipping. But, it is usually requested and paid for up front by the buyer. This is the last I'm writing about it. I'm going to sit back, read what everybody else has to say and file it away for future reference.
