Default Clutch Fingers 1/2" Off!!!

So I go to measure/adjust my pressure plate fingers on my '31 Tudor and for a moment I thought I was holding the wrong tool. My fingers were a whole 1/2-inch out of adjustment (low)! Needless to say I consulted the repair manual again a few extra times and sure enough, 5/8" is the standard and mine were 1-1/8th" deep...

My clutch disc is an original style disc that was glazed over with rivets rubbing so it needed to be replaced anyhow but now I know why I had to press the pedal to the floor to disengage the clutch. Clutch pedal will need full adjustment now to get it back to baseline new but now I can't wait to drive the car!

If your pressure plate fingers are 1/2” lower than 5/8” I would think that the disc is in backwards, that would cause the springs to be up against the flywheel.

Oh no...it really was that much off. No, I have the "thick" end of the disc facing out.

All the fingers are to spec now except for one which has it's adjustment nut soaking in Power Blaster spray...

Anyone know when they stopped making the unsprung clutch disk? The old disc I removed was the old kind. I was wondering if maybe it was original to the car, or at least wondering how potentially 'new' it might be.

As far as I know, unsprung clutch discs weren't made much beyond the Model A era. I swear there was a page on Vince Falters website that covered this but I can't find it.

I know from the V8 Forums on Fordbarn and others have sworn that Fort Wayne is the best supplier of clutch and pressure plate parts. I got my pressure plate from them or what I think is them on Ebay and I notice that in their clutch and pressure plate kits an original non spring clutch disc is the one supplied. The spring ones that the Model A vendors sell I believe are all China ones.
