Default Looking for wheels and found this

Went to the back of a friends ranch looking for wheels and found these four rough cars

Why are they called shoe boxes?

Looks like there are three coupes, and I can't see any rust holes in he usual places. It'd be a shame if someone doesn't rescue them!

I think the 'shoebox' term originated because when new these cars looked square compared to the fat fender '48 and earlier cars.

LOL, it's not my name, it's what they have been called forever! A Model A has fenders, the shoe boxes are somewhat fenderless compared to any earlier model. I don't care for the design, but I know there are a lot of people that love them. I like the early fender years with the fender off, now that will get me in trouble!!!!!
