Laycock overdrive - Speedo drive
Greetings fellow A Drivers!
I had sourced a spare driveshaft and torque tube and Laycock overdrive from a Triumph gearbox and had them mated together by a local engineer. i will be fitting it to my pickup in the following few weeks. Can someone please tell me where I attach the speedo drive, andwhat we do to keep the speedo accurate? All help is appreciated Kindest regards Steve |

Re: Laycock overdrive - Speedo drive
I thought originally it was in the tail housing on the laycock
there are speedo gearboxes for truck rears that are 2 speed |

Re: Laycock overdrive - Speedo drive
My is hooked up to the original Model A setup on the torque tube, when in overdrive it's 10 miles an hour slower than the speed your going.

Re: Laycock overdrive - Speedo drive
We bought two from a fellow near Shafter/Bakersfield, may have been "Dave" something. His had a connection that ran off the back of the Laycock and tied together with the Model A and was very accurate. Someone chime in with his contact info, I have misplaced it. (Brentwood Bob may help?) I would love to buy another. Great units, one switch operation if you create the failsafe as I did in the latest Restorer, for my Borg Warner O/D. Silent and smooth.

Re: Laycock overdrive - Speedo drive
Rich Little is THE Laycock overdrive guy, lives near Bakersfield CA phone is 661-809-3451.
The over drive has a speed takeoff point, just need a speedo shop to make you a longer cable. The speedo gears are color coded, I thing mine is black, which matches the speedo very close. Other colors are available. Enjoy |

Re: Laycock overdrive - Speedo drive
The colored Ford speedo gears described in the attached article are used in the Mitchell overdrive. They may be the same as used in the Volvo overdrive. They are apparently available from a Ford dealer.
