Default '36 door problems

On my coupe, the passenger door has gradually gotten to the point where I have to slam the snot out of the door to get it to close. Otherwise, it doesn't catch and stops on the outer striker. Is this systematic of the striker being worn out, or does something else need readjusted?

remove the guide on the door & remove the wedge that goes on the post now close the door if the belt line dosent line up your door is at falt check play in hinge pins look for cracks by hinge were it is attached to the door also the post or a piller.we had a 36 here last week for a clutch when we put in back on the groung we had to adjust the drivers door & this was a run on lift not a lift where the wheels hang.

When you open the door does the handle spring back level? If not the spring in the latch may be weak. I also noticed this "slam" for both my Coupe doors when I changed to Bob Drake one piece rubber molding on top of the door. Old style worked easier. Since this is a progressing problem for your car, I would suspect the spring or possibly the striker is warn too much.

Thanks.

The handle sags a tiny bit but not that much at all. I'm definitely going to order some new strikers. And apparently new door glass too.

Be sure you get a picture of the strikers for sale and compare with those on your car. I bought some years ago and the vendor told me they were for a 36 Ford, but not only were they the wrong shape, they did not match the bolt holes in my door post! Good luck.

The strikers are adjustable using the two mounting screws. Your going to remove the screws if your going to replace the strikers.

I had a different problem, I think the test is to check if your door fits squarely in the opening. If you are depending on the dove tail to raise your door it won't close with out slamming. also my door latch assembly worked very hard, like the spring is to strong which made it nessesary to slam the door to get the latch to push in. Try holding the outside handle down in the open position then close the door and see if it rubs on the dove tails or, if it closes all the way it may be your latch assembly. good luck
