Default 59ab stuck valves

I got the engine freed up on my 33 Cabriolet , soaked two days with Kroll. But most of the valves are stuck open, has any one been successful in freeing them by just taking off the intake manifold, or will I need to bite the bullet and pull off the heads? Notice the old hot rod linkage on the duel carbs, hay it works, I don't plan to change anything on this car, unless it's necessary to be safe. it's been converted to juice brakes from the 1940's , I'll be rebuilding them. The engine broke loose easy, so I'm hoping that the rings may free up, but from past experience the valves may need to come out, for a valve job. It was built to be a hot rod around the early 1960's . My photo's won't upload ?

It's a lot easier if you pull the heads. If they are real crusty, it will take a while of moving them up & down with penetrant & Marvel Mystery Oil to get them free. It can be a tedious job but there just isn't any easy fix for stubborn stickers.

Use 50/50 mix, works very good for this problem. However, I don't think this is going to solve all your problems. Try not to bend any valves

If your using the "Go Advanced" click, it should work on "additional options" - "Manage Attachments" clicker. If it won't upload then the jpeg photo file may have to be resized per Ryan's data limits for the site.

It may be a bear to get the valve & guide assemblies to come out. The guides can get stuck a lot tighter than the valves at times. An appropriate bar will pull the loose ones down to get the horse shoe clips out but sometimes you just have to pry them out and use a puller on the guides. You can generally free them up if you are careful when you tap on the valve head. Ol'Ron mentioned 50/50 ATF & Acetone as a good penetrant. The Marvel Mystery oil will soften carbon but it may not do as much if there is corrosion there. Usually they will work loose as long as they will move. The corrosion or carbon will act as a lapping compound to free them up as long as they will start to move.

I believe your pictures need to be 800x600 or smaller in order to upload correctly.

i soaked stuck valves for ten days with MMO. Every couple of days I misted the MMO though the spark plug holes and also channeled the oil though plastic tubing. After this period i gently tapped the frozen valves with a piece of wooden doweling. Each valve snapped into place and the engine fired right up after twenty-two years of sitting.

Did the same method on my 39 Deluxe and 52 Merc only I used penetrating oil sprayed in through the spark plug holes. It worked for me but will depend just how bad your valves are stuck.

Up date, I'm working lots of hours for the next ten days. Will most likely pull the heads, however while I'm not able to have time to work on it I'll keep soaking with the 50-50% mix. Thanks for all the input, Ford-barn is a great source for all of us ford guys. PS I tried all sorts of tricks and still no luck uploading photo's?
