Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?
Firestone listed both 15 and 16 inch disc and wire wheels for Model A's in 1932.

Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?
The only problem I see with this whole shpeel is that Chevy wheels are 6 lug. I had a 26 with disc wheels.

Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?
I have seen this type wheel before. The driver of the car said they were Dodge wheels.

Yes, technically these are steel discs, but look like they are from a 1940 or later Ford, and are typical of most American steel wheels from 1938 or so up. The wheels I'm referring to are an earlier style, in vogue from around 1920 through about 1931. Some examples below: |

We got side-tracked a bit on the bow-ties... I wasn't suggesting that they'd work on a Ford, but was wondering if anyone recalled seeing similar disc wheels for the A... I have not, either in photos or printed ad media... SC Frank |

Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?
Thanks for the clarification about disc wheels. I had the feeling I was missing something.

Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?
Back to the original question, there were solid disc wheels aimed at the Ford taxi fleets in 1929.Aluminium alloy, agents were Draper Tire Co. Washington DC.
I would put up a pic but the steam pc is hopeless for it. Post '40 Ford wheels on a Model A are capable of breaking the studs due to incorrect fit at the drum. Last edited by Tudortomnz; 10-12-2012 at 09:36 PM. |

I came up with this photo of tires from the Twenties from Draper in Washington, DC by Googling. I am seeing this type of tire being manufactured again so it shows that everything that is old is suddenly new again. http://www.shorpy.com/node/5270?size=_original image.jpg |

Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?
I've been able to put steel wheels on my Model A, by using 1" thick, wheel adapters. They fit correctly on the Model A brake drums, bolt pattern is 5 X 51/2.
I want to drive the Model A during the winter and if it snows, I may want to run it with the studded-snow tires I have. Past experience, my roadster drove really nice in the snow with no problems. But if I want to, I can run the snow tires. |

Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?
Have a look in the Book ; Unauthorised Accesories for the Model A Ford There are some different wheels in there from the period also a lot of speed equipment that
was available at the time . Bill Yes they did call them Breakers Yards or Scrap Yards But now that everything has gone Green they are Recycling Centres or Motor Dismantlers and they won't let you go in and look around any more [ That used to be one of my favorite hobbies climbing on the cars in the Junkyard] you have to wait at the counter for them to find the parts!! Warm Beer Well it's never very hot in the UK and the beer is kept in the cellar at the pubs so it normally is cool but not so cold as a refrigerator. Poor old Lucas they weren't so bad were they? How you getting on with the Hoosier Hotshots My favorite track by them is: "Are You Having Any Fun" They played lots of horns in their songs Bulb and Klaxon thats probabbly why the Chief liked them. Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?
Is it easy to change tires on those? Looks like the tire would need to stretch a little.

Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?
Those would suuuck to change tires on. Similar to a model T tire job except those have a small amount of drop center.
