Just purchase 4 cores which had some movement. In opening filler plug I noticed the consistency of the "fluid" was different. Two had what appeared to be grease inside. On a whim I tried a zerkes (sp?) fitting and found the threads were the same on all shocks. Anyone had any experience with filling shocks with grease as a work around for shocks that possible leak rather than doing a complete rebuild?

Rebuild or buy new.

Grease was mostlikely put there for a reason.

Worn out and leaking.

unless you take the shock apart. you are only putting grease in the reservoir, not in the chamber. and if you put it in the chamber, chances are you will bend the shock arms. if you get side movement on the shaft they are most likely junk.

Shocks require fluid to work.They need rebuilt.
