My dad has had this Jim Beam decanter in his house for years, he told me to take it home when we got the A, but I never did as it was proudly displayed in his bedroom. I guess my nephews keep trying to play with it because he told me to get it out of his house before it got broke.

There is still whiskey in it, and I believe the seal was intact when he got it. I thought it was cool enough to share here.

The ones online have a roof and trunk, this one never had one since my dad had it, but he got it second hand.

I have the entire collection of Model As that I bought, one at a time back in the 80s. I never opened any of them but I think the booz is evaporating out of them a little at a time. I display them in my garage along with my full size cars and my 200+ model car collection. They will probably never have any real value but I like looking at them.

Glenn, in Single Malt Scotch Whiskey circles they call that loss or evaporation the "Angel's Share". It’s what they loose from the barrel whilst it ages for the 10 plus years.

Like Glenn, I collected a full set of the Beam Model A's back in the late 1980's. Funny thing I never drank alcohol but was "eat up" with the Model A bug and bought everything Model A that I saw. I even have a series of the magazine advertisements of the time. Check your early 80's MAFCA Restorers as these bottles were advertised in the club magazine when introduced. There were nine Model A bottles plus several special limited editions which might have been a different color porcelain or slightly modified body type. In the 80's it was fairly hard to collect a full set and the bottles sold for a premium. They are easy to find and much cheaper now on ebay. After just a few years the factory where the bottles were made burned down and the molds were destroyed so in reality all of the bottles became a limited edition and I think collectible. Many other cars and trains, besides Model A, were made into decanters also.

1930 Model A Fire Truck (AA style)
1929 Model A Police Car (phaeton)
1930 Police Patrol Wagon
1930 Ambulance
1929 Ford Phaeton

29ModelA your phaeton is missing the top and the trunk on the back. (It did not have a trunk/spare tire combination like the Police Car phaeton). I think your phaeton, as is, would bring $25 to $30 at a car show flea market.

I have the Fire Chief's Sport Coupe in original box. Haven't had it out for a while but it's red and, IIRC, has a few "extras" like bell, extinguisher, boots, etc. My parents gave it to me when we had our Sporty - AFTER they drank the whiskey!

The Jim Beam Co. was a small sponsor of our trip Around The World in 1982. We carried with us about six sport coupe decanters (empty) and had them signed by dignitaries . When we returned they were auctioned off at the convention in Mn.
At that time we were given a black phaeton with gold trim and "WORLD 82" onthe licience plate and our world tour logo on the door. only 7 were produced. It is a treasured momento.

A number of years ago I was told by a retired whiskey distributor the "true story" of Jim Beam and the collectible decanters. According to my source, a study showed that their whiskey continued to age up until a certain point, and then began to deteriorate. Beam was apparently looking at many thousands of gallons of whiskey that was on the edge, so they started brainstorming ideas. Thus was born the "collectible decanters", fine china bottles, all filled with a gallon of vintage whiskey, much of which would never be imbibed as that might lower the value of the container.

Don't know if it's true or not, but it's a great tale. I have two Beam bottles, a full 1972 Yellowstone National Park Centennial, and an empty sport coupe Model A. I bought the Yellowstone bottle when I worked there the summer of '72. I had to stop my dad from sampling the insides. The Model A was given to me by a good friend, but only after he tested the quality; must have been okay, it's empty.

Chief, my Dad, gave up drinking & poured a QUART of Moonshine in the Hogs' Slop Bucket. Shortly after feeding time, he said them Hogs were Insanely Funny acting.
He & his Brothers spooned Whiskey down a mean old Rooster & all got beat, with a rope! He said it was worth it, to see the Roosters' ANTICS! YES, this was my Dearly Beloved Father, that taught me ALL kinds of GREAT Model A stuff!!!
Oh the stories he told me of his drinking days & making & delivering Moonshine much like a Milkman delivered milk. I was amazed that he lived to be 92 Years old & was never arrested or in JAIL!!!

When we moved, my wife gave it away to her fireman nephew-in-law - I'm still POed about that!

Many years ago, we had some spiked egg nog left over after a party - gave it to the cat. He lapped it up, staggered over to his favorite chair, tried to jump in it but missed, and just laid there on the floor with a stupid cat-grin on his face. Wouldn't do it now as we realize it probably wasn't good for him, but we were young and foolish at the time.

Most Dogs LOVE to lap BEER! At a local shop, during after work beer, the Shop Dog would get plastered & retire to his shop bed!

My mother told me about a house party that they had, back in the depression. They had a small keg of beer w/a spigot that dripped a bit. The neighbour's bulldog was continually licking up the drips and later on he farted and it stank so bad it cleared the house out.

Back in the '70's a fellow A'er in Sweden wanted a Beam firetruck. I packaged up a full one real well so you couldn't hear it slosh and labeled it a "ceramic car sculpture" on the customs slip. He received it fine and enjoyed the whisky too.
