Re: '32 woodie - holes in cowl
Since the antenna is not period correct for the woodie I will likely fill and paint them. HOWEVER . . . the topic got me to wondering if there were radios in 1932. The earliest models, beginning in 1930, had a control/speaker box that mounted somewhere under the dash and a head unit that attached to the steering column.
So, the "survivoration" will now feature an early 30's RCA Victor radio. It needs a little TLC, but it has the look. Seems to me that someone able to afford a '32 woodie back in the day would certainly splurge for a radio to go in it. It appears that these radios cost about 1/3 the price of a brand new car. |

Please ee pages 19-5 and 6 plus Appendix 19 in the Early Ford V8 Club's 1932 Ford book for a complete treatise on the first Ford-released automobile radio.

Re: '32 woodie - holes in cowl
Well, heck, I must have been 'styling', back in the 50's. Here's one of my high-school cars, with BOTH the antenna, and the port-a-walls. Little hard to see in the pictures, but they are there. It also has one of those 'newfangled' dropped axles, from Bell Auto Parts. Close as I could get to a Ford, at that point in my life. In my own defense, I also had a 35-5W, and a 36-5W.

Down here in NZ back in the day, no self respecting "Bodgie" would be without one of those 12 foot aerials on his old V8 or Mark 1 Ford Zephyr.

Here's what's left of the 'real deal' on a '32 Ford roadster recently found in a real barn on the northern California coast, sitting un-molested since 1955. DD

Re: '32 woodie - holes in cowl
I have seen holes like these on some 32's. They where used for the early radio antenna. Can't say for sure that was the purpose of these, just an observation.

Re: '32 woodie - holes in cowl
Was looking a some photos of a car my dad had and guess what? They have to go back to at least the early to mid 40s because he purchased it in 44 and sold it in 46. He said the antenna was on in when he bought it.
