Correct 1949 Gas Cap for Shoebox
I just acquired a 1949 Custom and am trying to source the correct cap for my car. I see plenty that say "Correct for 50-52, fits '49, which is telling me that whatever is mass-produced still isn't correct for my year. Could anyone post a photo of what the '49 cap is supposed to look like?

I did find this, but not sure if it's correct. It sure looks different.

I think the difference may be the ‘50 is painted body color and the ‘49 is stainless because it’s on the outside. I agree Shoebox Central will know, and no doubt have, what you need.
Love them Shoeboxes!!!!!.........Mark

You don't need that chrome piece - it is just a scratch guard for the body when refueling, an aftermarket accessory.......Bob L

Re: Correct 1949 Gas Cap for Shoebox
Someone posted the picture of Carpenter's cap and that is it. I have a 49 and it is just a stainless cap with serrated edge. You can see it on the car. 1950 went to a gas door and I've never looked to see what that cap should look like. a nice looking stainless cap would fit but they may have gone to a crappy looking no one will see it cap.

Should be a rubber grommet around the filler. http://dennis-carpenter.com/fuel-nec...met/p/8A-9080/

Attached are photos of a Genuine NOS 1949 cap.. Gates and Stant produce a decent looking NEW cap that resembles the original to a degree (i.e. the cap carpenter sells)

My 50 has one just like the pic posted above but is behind a gas cap door.
