Default 8BA Coolant Hoses

Any recommendations on who sells the best quality radiator hoses for the 52 Mercury. I'm thinking of replacing mine. Looked at Bob Drake as well as C&G. Both have the full set for around the $60 mark . Although with shipping and conversion to Cdn dollar it will likely be $100 or more by the time I get them. The hoses on mine were good quality but nearly 50 years old.

Might be worth a look too. I see Rock Auto has them too but not with the fancy Ford script that Bob Drake and C&G has.

I bought some lower hoses from Carpenter several years ago for my '53 RanchWagon, and the Chinese quality was far worse than the previous USA-sourced ones they sold. The shape of the hoses was wrong, making it really hard to get a leak-free fit, and the yellow script and part number was a paint that all came off in my hands as I wrestled them on. Their earlier hoses were stenciled with what I guess was a yellow ink... not a paint. The old ones went on fine and the logo looked good.

I think Carpenter makes all of them with the Ford Script on them.

I got mine from Carpenter with the script. They worked nicely but honestly my tractor application is a bit unique. But the script has held up almost 2 years now.

The hoses look great and I like that V8 tractor too. The top hoses are a pretty simple design that can be bought many places. Just a 90 degree mold and cut length to fit. I was able to trim a bit off the bottom of the top hoses so they go down further onto the heads and the clamp is holding on a different area than it has the past 50 years. SHould be good for a while but I'm seeing the bottom hoses are a bit crimped as if I did not get them aligned quite right.

Just curious; did the hoses from the factory have the stampings? Or did they come from some plants (or from some suppliers) plain? It's a lot easier to remove markings than to add them.

My bottom hoses have a slight bend or offset. I had to trim (shorten) them to make them work on the tractor. And yes, the tops are simple 90s that can trim to fit. I actually turned them over after this photo because the hood covered the stampings and I wanted them to be seen. If I didn't care about stampings, I would buy a NAPA/CarQuest/Gates hose if available. My concept with the tractor was I wanted it to look as if it could have if the conversion was done in the '50s. Here is a photo of it put together.

" My bottom hoses have a slight bend or offset "
Looks like the wheels have a slight bend also

Gates online lists a "green stripe vibraflex hump hose" that looks like it could replace a bottom hose.

https://www.gates.com/us/en/fluid-po...ant-hose/c/197

I think the bottom is 1 1/2" Id so the 23515 is a 1 1/2" x 5" and would allow some movement-but don't know if that is long enough.

https://www.gates.com/us/en/ymm/sear...engine=V-8+255

They list the molded hoses as 20137 and 20151.

Not sure about that 20151 lower molded hose. It looks to have too many bends. Unless they mean to cut it in half and it is long enough to do both bottom hoses. The originals would have been a very slight "S" shape to match the angle of the bottom rad outlets.
