Default Oil Pan Gasket Installation

Les Andrews book says to install oil pan gasket and torque to 20 FT LBS. Is that not a little heavy? Any help would sure be appreciated as the pan is awaiting torque as I type.
Thanks for your time.

they only get hand tightened , the book is a misprint
you dont want to squeeze the gasket out just choke up on the ratchet head and wrist it

Thanks Mitch/pa. I also just found a post by Carl G in another thread that said don't do like Les Andrews book says (20lbs). He suggested 5-6 lbs at the very most.
Thanks again for the response.
