Default Neat Period Photo of Model A Fords in Haymarket Square in Boston

As congested as traffic is in downtown Boston these days, it’s hard to believe that the streets once looked like this. This panoramic view of Haymarket Square with the landmark Custom House in the distance was shot from a vantage point on an upper floor of the Haymarket Relief Hospital. Note the Chevrolet and Purity billboards and three Model A Sedans just to the left of the Subway Station. You can see it all in enlargements on The Old Motor.

Funny one doesn't see the Govnuh hizzelf James Michael Curley going between car windows glad handing hizzown.

From the Wikipedia entry for (James Michael Curley)

Quote:
[James Michael Curley (November 20, 1874 – November 12, 1958) was an American politician famous for his four terms as Democratic mayor of Boston, Massachusetts and one term as Governor of Massachusetts. He also served twice in the United States House of Representatives. He was as well known for his popularity in Boston, particularly with Irish Americans, as well as his connections to the Irish Mob and corrupt practices. His popularity was such that he was on one occasion reelected mayor while serving time in prison for a felony conviction.
And this sort of attitude just one of the reasons I long ago left the "Commonwealth" and converted to "Live Fee or Duh" - which I actually prefer.

But alas - we tread on political ground here. Or, correction, trying to keep located on common sense ground.

Going onwards -

Nice pix. One can still see the green metal roof'ed municipal buildings here and there in Boston. I imagine this one a subway?

And a 10 cent lunch available across from the subway station.

Tomorrow morning on The Old Motor we have a real interesting late 1920s photo of a mystery boat-tailed roadster along with a lone 1928-29 Model A Sport Coupe and more than a dozen others in a neat street scene.
