Re: What steering box is this?
Were you literally looking only at the gearbox or all of its accessories? The same gearbox was used from 1937 to 1948. The switch control on the bottom was for 37-39 as mentioned earlier. The steering arm was the same from 37 to I think 41 but later years had a different arm,

Re: What steering box is this?
Well, that is good to know. I was actually trying to figure out what switch plate and harness to buy. I bought this box several years ago and am just now getting around to getting some wiring done on my '35 pickup. I had it in my notes it was a '40 but obviously, the connection is not.

Re: What steering box is this?
The bottom plate, if you plan to use the headlight switch on the column shown you need to use a 37 to 39 plate. The 40 and later lower plate has a smaller diameter tube that the headlight rod wont fit through. I'm saying this because you mentioned that you thought it was a 40 box.

Re: What steering box is this?
The headlight switch is the typical center of the column/center of the steering wheel arrangement with the long rod.

Re: What steering box is this?
Should be able to wire it like a 39 then and use the floor dimmer switch. With the correct parts you should be able to wire it like the original 35.
