Need to change neutral safety switch on my 54 merc to one that will allow it to start in park as well as neutral. What switch will work?? Any hints on shifting the new switch so as to make more room for the dual exhausts I am installing.

In 1958 was when Ford automatics first started in both park and neutral. No experience, but I have heard that the 58 switches can be used on the earlier cars.

I got this switch:
C1TF-7A247-A
1960-1966 Ford truck with Auto
I have not installed it yet, but it looks identical to the original switch and is supposed to allow start in both Neutral & Park. I got it off Ebay, but in thinking about it later, I bet a local NAPA dealer could get one for you. I paid about $35.00 for it.

Thanks for the help guys. Paul, neither NAPA, CARQUEST or AutoZone have a listing for 58s. That's Alaska for you I guess.

Thks, that part nbr helped. Now will have to fabricate a bracket for it. That should be interesting.

Your original bracket, if you have it, should work just fine
