Default Crankshaft seal 59ab

LOOKING FOR HELP ON THE FRONT COVER FOR A 59AB ENGINE CRANKSHAFT SEAL. i HAVE ALWAYS USED THE OLD STYLE ROPE SEAL. THERE ARE NEW STYLE SEALS AVAILABLE, i HAVE TWO ONE IS ALUMINUM WITH AN OUTER O RING THE OTHER IS ALL BLACK IN COLOR. i WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH ONE WOULD SHOULD BE USED. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. tHANKS sTAN

Use the rope seal. It's the best solution.

I use the one piece seal exclusively. Either one will work just fine. I don't have a preference.

Stan I like the aluminum one with the outer O ring I found it centers nicely between the pan and front cover especially considering each are somewhat different in shape. Found no leaks at 200 MPH.

Hi guys, new here & wondered if somebody could tell me the years that they had the pin to prevent you from replacing the rope seal from the bottom--

I should have said that although my car is a '41, the PO said the engine is a '49, but I haven't confirmed that.
