Arrow 1930-31 fan shroud ?

I never had one on all of my 1930 - 31 model a. What is the advantage of it ?

They were not included on the 1930 & 1931 Model A’s. I think by then they concluded they were unnecessary.

From what I’ve read from discussions on this forum, the fan shroud increases the ability of the fan to draw air through the radiator at slow speeds. The shroud does not provide much benefit when the car is moving at higher speeds.

I think the decision to discontinue the fan shroud was two fold. Unlike today, most motorists in the late ‘20’s and ‘30’s did not have to deal with the high volume of drivers that we have on the streets today nor did they drive in slow speed parades that may owners drive our Model A’s today. Second, Henry was always looking to cut costs so with larger radiator used in the ‘30 - ‘31 models he determined the fan shroud was unnecessary.
