The 1957-59 9" rear axle swap in a 1952-56 is a popular option pretty much a bolt in, change to the '57 rear U-joint.

It depends on how complete it is and which parts you're trying to swap. Ford made electrical and drive-train upgrades each year.
The '57 carb, intake and distributor are the often 'preferred' ones to have. If your '55 isn't 12 volt negative ground yet and you'd like it to be this could be a good opportunity. Some pieces won't swap without creating more trouble (dash parts) and obvious body differences.

yes, most of the "57 parts will fit the "55. Not all. one is 6 volt, other 12 volt as I am sure you know. I would jump on it, not many parts cars fpr 55-57 fprds, we raced the hell out of them on our local dirt track!!

All frame, interior and body parts are not interchangeable between '55 and '57 Fords. The whole drivetrain is except for possible the driveshaft length. If electrical system on your '55 is 6-volt positive ground, you cannot use generator, voltage regulator, ignition coil, light bulbs or anything else electrical from the '57, except for switches such as headlight switch, courtesy switches, ignition switch, starter-neutral switch.

Actually you have all the parts to convert to 12 volts negative ground, from 1957 up until the early 80's Ford used 6 volt gauges the exception was 1956,1957 and later used thisfor the gauges they did this by using this: https://www.ebay.com/i/121968168248?...waAlkhEALw_wcB Save this and use it as a guide: https://darksidersrealm.forumotion.c...egative-ground

1957 had a different design rear axle (9 inch) and can't swap pigs with a '55.
Engine codes in 1957 are: C for 292 and D for 312. The 312 dual quad was E, and the supercharged 312 was F.
For 1955 the engine codes were U for 272 two barrel, M for 272 four barrel, and P for 292 four barrel.

cvicky...
That's what they had when they left the factory. In the 63+ years since then almost anything is possible.
Here's a page / link where you can find a chart for engine block casting numbers...

Note that you cannot tell a 312 from a same year 292 by the block casting number.
