Looking for what seems like non-existent Ford parts like 37-48 brake shoes and wheel cylinders, How about Drake ? Thank you, Fordbarners.

How about Richard Lacy at the Early V8 Garage? He should have the REAL DEAL! DD

Re: Source of Drake parts
The '37-'48 brake shoes are definitely non existent. The '37 and '38 were mechanical brakes and unique shoes and of course no wheel cylinders. The pre war brakes were different from the post war brakes. Do you need shoes or to just have yours relined? If yours can be relined I think I would go that route. Unfortunately in todays world "new" is not always better. Post a picture of the shoes you need. People can identify them and at least you will know what to ask for. I second the suggestion about Richard Lacy.
Putting your general location in your profile might help you getting a recommendation for a local source. Charlie Stephens |

Re: Source of Drake parts
Also they are out of stock on over half the stuff. Carpenter is much better. For brakes, go to Speedway and get the Lincoln self actuating brakes, linings drums and wheel cylinders as a set.

Re: Source of Drake parts
My error, I meant to say '39-40 shoes & cylinders. Are Speedway, NAPA, Drake, Early V8 in SC & Carpenter a viable source for USA brake products or are they imported ?
I know about them all, what I am looking for is USA only. Thank you Fordbarners. |

Re: Source of Drake parts
Real Ford brake shoe cores are getting hard to find. Lately, there have been a bunch of REPRODUCTION shoes coming from someplace deep in the far East that have the big locating holes in the wrong location. Obviously, those suck! DD

Re: Source of Drake parts
try barnfind08 on here, he has many NOS parts. you can always have someone reline your shoes and rebuild, with ss liners, your cylinders.

Re: Source of Drake parts
Richard Lacy specializes in brakes that work. If he doesn't have the good stuff, he can at least point ya toward whomever does. DD

Re: Source of Drake parts
I reline my own brake shoes . I bought a riveting tool years ago and now just buy the new linings and rivets. I reuse the old shoes as most are original Ford parts. Most of the repro parts dealers are selling offshore repro junk that usually doesn't fit and/or works poorly. I have been buying original shoes when I see them
and recycle them when I need a set. Be careful when working with or cleaning old brake parts I always wear a dust mask.

Re: Source of Drake parts
Also, when you get shoes relined, the correct way is to use oversize material and then have them 'arced' to match your brake drums (the actual diameters). Having the correct arcs on the shoes makes them work as they should (correct contact with the drum). You'll have to find a brake shop that has the equipment and knowledge to do this correctly - which is getting hard to find these days. You may need to source a local "clutch and brake" shop that works on trucks and other types of vehicles . . . as most of the industry is in the "rip and replace" mode.
Note, Richard Lacy did this type of work for my Lincoln setup. He "skimmed" the new drums to make them perfectly matched to the hubs they were on and then setup the shoes for each specific drum. This is the correct way to do it. |

Try N.B. Pease antique auto parts in Palmer, Mass. He will re-line your original brake shoes. 1-413-283-7620
